Hymns

So I am hesitant to share thoughts on a blog, but after being encouraged by so many of you, I thought I would try to share more about what our family is going through and thinking,  with the hope that God gets all the glory.

So our latest long conversation was about hymns...  we go to a church that sings mainly hymns and I just cant help but say that the worship here is so uplifting.  Of course I love the new style of worship, but there is something about singing an old hymn, knowing the story behind it and really being able to worship our Saviour.  I was reminded of so many of my favorites when we went to California.   I am sure it had something to do with Chaplain Bill Bryan leading the singing with that good ole trumpet that I grew up listening to.  He actually married David and I and blew that trumpet when I walked down the aisle with my Dad.  I love the simplicity and truth of this one:

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy with Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide if we trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy with Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy with Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy with Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet.
Or we'll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy with Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
